annecy 2025 trip #1
hi i'm at annecy international animation film festival and i don't want to forget this (+getting back into the habit of actually existing online again), so here's a little log~ 🪵
day 0: fri/sat (24hr travel day)
- hoo boy where do i begin, so i had a flight from LA to NY to Geneva
- BUT when i landed in NY and immediately went over to the gate for my next flight, the boarding...ended??? so i had to get on another flight
- a lady in line at the help desk ranted a bunch and said "NO accountability, this is what the world is right now" which was so funny, like girl...c'mon the sweeping moral statements? lmao
- had an insanely good snack called a Beemster Cheese Roll on the dutch airline
- why are all the immigration officers at the amsterdam airport hot
- the train ride to annecy is so beautiful my god
- took me 20 min to find the airbnb, what castle ma'am help me drop a pin
- place is cute! cramped...small, but i am on the shorter side so i'm vibing
- crashed and watched Le Dernier Cercle which is a 2-3 fucking hour game show about logic and reasoning and was actually extremely fun and entertaining outside of the language barrier
- went from "these fucking stupid ass facebook bait questions" to "oh...wow uh, wh-"
- SO after roughly 24hrs of travel, i am here and it was a success phew fuck
day 1: sun (settle + anxiety???)
- started out the morning in a baaaaaad headspace BUT gotta go and grab my badge
- got my badge, wahoo
- nervously walked around and got some poke, it was mmnmnmmfine
- took a nice 2hr nap and spent some time in my brain
- my friend jeff arrived! he's been to this festival before so already some amount of strength and assurance
- burrata basil sundried tomato pizza bitch
- uhhhh got vanilla gelato and went home, thankfully the festival doesn't actually begin until mon when things actually happen so we're good!
day 2: mon (actual day 1)
- so today was the unofficial first day of the festival, cause features actually start premiering
- saw balentes, extremely disappointing rip (review here: https://boxd.it/9XKa0F)
- jeff and i got very delicious sandwiches and chatted about the films we saw
- took a long ass nap, still struggling through jet lag blech
- couple other friends arrived! also tired!
- saw mononoke pt 2, fucking ruled (review here: https://boxd.it/9XKNXB)
- as i was walking back to my airbnb through the small downtown area at midnight, a guy said "oh my god your fit is super cute"
- took my airpods out and said thank you and he said "yeah you're slaying" and it was genuinely such a meaningful and sweet compliment
- AND THEN...i walked away, continuing to walk to my place, and i got back and fucking kicked myself
- that was the perfect opportunity to stop and chat with someone (who speaks english and is probably gay), and i ran, and i wish i'd taken a sincere moment to connect
- no one's ever complimented me like that randomly before (and so earnestly too), so i blushed and avoided the situation, and it's a lesson to be more open and less isolationist
- thank you to whoever you are, if i can redeem this missed meetcute later, i'll be very happy
