2024 vgm thoughts #4
howdy (suffering under the weight of my actions, aka not doing this throughout the year and overloading now riiiiiip)
shiren the wanderer: mystery dungeon composer
- hmmmmmm complicated
- there are some tracks in here that i really really love (there'll be multiple in my faves playlist), but tbh a lot of it is difficult to get through for me
- maybe it's a core stylistic thing, it's got a big orchestral sound (rough for me) mixed with traditional japanese instruments (also rough, though not as much)
- idk i'd still absolutely recommend this to people, i just wish i liked it more overall...but uh them's the breaks am i right ladies
ufo 50
- man i wish i wasn't a mac user sometimes cause i want to play this game so bad
- anyway yeah this ost rules, so much effort clearly put in to this entire uhh..."compilation"
- i love how the entire soundtrack is so cohesive and expresses its voice so purely and clearly while still experimenting with different tones and vibes (which also makes going through the 331 track OST surprisingly palatable)
- it obviously makes sense given the context of the game being one fake game system with presumably one sound chip, but still very very very clever and well executed
- the use of microtones is also super wild and used very effectively
- favorite game soundtracks are warptank, the three campanellas, and combatants
legend of zelda: echoes of wisdom
- this is so cool????? why is this so cool
- maybe it's manaka kataoka? maybe it's a lot of the new/outsourced composers? or maybe hajime wakai is just amazing as music director, idk it makes me extremely curious about credits to see who did what (this is a gamble because it's nintendo so big money big money no whammies no whammies)
- a lot of the tracks roam and tiptoe all over the place and yet it all flows so musically, like it all makes sense you know?
- graaahhhhh inject the live chamber sound into my veins
- EASTERN TEMPLE AAAAAAA
- ty zelda for this
mouthwashing
- listen i need a little mouthwashing, i've got GINGIVITIS audience laugh track
- i know batshit nothing about this game except for it's supposed to be extremely good narratively?
- anyway the soundtrack sets that up because what the fuck is going on with this game
- there'll be a really beautiful melancholic ambient track and then switch over to royalty free travel montage music on youtube and then experimental noise music plays
- also girl hold your top eyelid open it'll be easier to put your contacts in
egg squeeze
- baby bits
- wann more
- but cool
- egg
- eggy
mario and luigi: brothership
- can i tell a secret, will you get mad
- i......have never really liked the mario and luigi series music
- IDK idk something about it is just really, uninteresting to me? obviously yoko shimomura's writing is great but personally, not my thing
- so with this game, i was honestly gonna skip over it UNTIL i saw hideki sakamoto (head of noisycroak and very good composer, smash ultimate fame)
- it's still just alright to me though, probably because it's trying to adhere to the previous installments' identity and sound
- which you know
- anyway sorry mario and luigi, zelda's better this year woopsie
