2022 vgm thoughts #4
xenoblade chronicles 3
- help
- mitsuda and co., i'm grateful you poured your whole pussy into this but fuck this is so much music, it's Too Much Music
- i want off mr. mitsuda's wild ride
- no but actually though, i thought about taking the easy route and saying “ehhhhh it’s whatever”, but no it’s actually worth it
- like, it’s not like fire emblem warriors where i skimmed through and it was very clear i’d have a monotonous listening experience
- xenoblade has some serious depth to it which goddamn it now i have to dig through 12+ hrs of this ost rip (post listen; it wasn't actually that bad since a bunch of the tracks are just variations, still a lot though)
- "the bereaved and those left behind" is gorgeous
amazing bomberman
- who composed the main menu music
- please
- who is it
- i had to put 'unknown' on my spreadsheet i'm mad
kirby's dream buffet
- the music sounds weirdly, uhhh cheap?
- it's like...all the simplicity in kirby music but none of the underlying complexity
- "character treats" is "never gonna give you up" wuh oh
miss kobayashi and the goblet of fire (this is not the title)
- the whole ost is cool but DAMN some of the tracks fuckin RUUULE
- chz and slash talked about this and i am grateful
betrayal at club low
- amazing follow-up to 2020's game
- while the previous game's sound was more downtempo jazz-inspired stuff, this game's ost is more transparently 'clubby'
- it's still insane to me that people make a game by themselves AND make the music?? and the music's good???
- how
splatoon 3
- fucking christ this is incredible
- the fact that at least 6 veteran nintendo composers worked on this is a testament to how deeply they care about this series
- there are certain tracks that i really get emotional over, just ridiculously creative and boldly experimental, taking risks on styles and sounds that are unabashedly polarizing
- it's also the easiest thing to binge because all the tracks are mixed so clean and clear
- some highlights: splatfest has got great music, the mission complete end jingle is ear candy, and jesus christ that "everywhere at the end of time" bullshit with the end of humanity music yeesh
- i'll say i'm not the biggest fan of the new battle themes (esp. compared to splatoon 2's battle themes), but still overall this soundtrack is fantastic and very very inspiring
